Cox Media Group Urban stations are uniting nationwide for a powerful, urgent initiative, Stopping the Music to Silence the Violence, a live national broadcast airing Sunday, May 31 from 7-9 pm ET across participating stations. The broadcast will originate from WCFB-Star 94.5 in Orlando and is dedicated to raising awareness around domestic violence and its impact on families and communities across the country.
Domestic violence is not just a headline issue, it is present in our homes, neighborhoods, and communities. According to the “Our Sisters’ House” organization, in the Black community alone, more than 4 out of 10 Black women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime, with both men and women affected. Too often, these experiences remain unspoken, untreated, and unresolved.
Recent incidents across the country have further underscored the urgency of addressing this crisis:
- The domestic violence-related death of a South Florida public official.
- The tragic murder-suicide case involving a former Virginia lieutenant governor.
- The loss of multiple children in a domestic violence-related tragedy in Louisiana.
This initiative expands the conversation beyond violence itself, focusing on mental health, trauma, and breaking generational cycles through awareness, education, and access to resources.
The broadcast will be simulcasted across all Cox Media Group Urban stations nationwide, including:
- Orlando: WCFB Star 94.5
- Miami: WEDR 99 Jamz & WHQT Hot 105
- Jacksonville: WHJX Hot 106.5 & WJGL HD2 Power 106.1
- Atlanta: WALR Kiss 104.1
- Tampa: WTVB 101.5 The Vibe
Stopping the Music to Silence the Violence will include a panel of experts featuring a psychotherapist, a domestic violence attorney, a survivor of domestic violence, and a specialist addressing rage and behavioral intervention. The event will also feature a live studio audience, where guests will be welcomed with a complimentary dinner as part of this impactful evening. It will be hosted by Monica May-Star from 94.5 FM in Orlando & Toni Moore from Kiss 104.1 FM in Atlanta.
This unified effort reflects Cox Media Group’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, awareness, and meaningful change.
