SiriusXM inks a multi-year agreement with media personality and author Stephen A. Smith, bringing his outspoken voice and unfiltered commentary to a wider audience across North America. The deal was announced by Smith during an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show.”
Starting in September, Smith will host and executive produce two original programs for the satellite broadcaster. His first show, a daily sports/talk program, will air weekdays on Mad Dog Sports Radio (channel 82). It will feature Smith’s trademark passionate takes on the biggest stories in sports, joining a lineup that includes Mad Dog Unleashed with Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo, Smith’s colleague on ESPN’s First Take.
In addition to the sports show, Smith will debut a weekly program focused on current events, politics, pop culture, and social commentary. That show will air on a separate, non-sports SiriusXM channel to be announced at a later date. Both shows will include guest interviews and live listener interaction.
“To say that I’m excited would be an understatement,” Smith said. “I get to reunite with my guy, Mad Dog, and also launch a platform for riveting conversations outside of sports-from politics to pop culture. It’s been a long time since I’ve been on the radio, and I can’t wait to get started. Buckle up! I’m coming!”
As part of the agreement, Smith will also host multiple live events for SiriusXM subscribers throughout the year.
“Stephen A. is a singular talent and one of the most influential voices in media today,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer of SiriusXM. “This partnership gives him the freedom to explore a broad range of topics and connect with listeners in new and compelling ways.”
Smith’s daily sports show will premiere Tuesday, September 2. A debut date for the weekly commentary show will be announced later in the summer.
