Power 96.5, Lansing’s home for Hip Hop and R&B, is joining forces with Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) to equip local students for the upcoming school year. This premier back-to-school tradition returns to Lansing for its 17thannual edition on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
With MSUFCU stepping in as this year’s title sponsor, the event reinforces its core mission to support Lansing families by distributing backpacks packed with essential school supplies. This drive-thru community effort will take place at the Don Johnson Field House parking lot (400 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Lansing, next to the Eastern High School football field) from 2:00 PM to 4:00PM, or until supplies run out.
“Teaming up with a community-first partner like MSUFCU allows us to elevate this critical effort,” said the Power 96.5 team. “We know how much Lansing families rely on this event every summer, and our goal is to ensure local students walk into their classrooms on day one confident, prepared, and ready to succeed.”
“MSUFCU is proud to support this longstanding community tradition and the students and families it serves,” said April Clobes, President and CEO of MSUFCU. “We know that students are better positioned to learn, grow, and succeed when they have the supplies they need to start the school
year with confidence. Through initiatives like this, MSUFCU is committed not only to helping provide those essential resources, but also to empowering young people with the financial education and skills they need to thrive throughout their lives.” The giveaway operates strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.
