A big congratulations to Hattie “Chatty Hatty” Leeper, a Black radio pioneer, is among the 2025 inductees to the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. Leeper, a longtime WGIV-AM disc jockey, was one of the first Black women in the South to take on the role. After starting at age 14, she established her own radio show at age 17 at WGIV.
She produced music and wrote liner notes for Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle, managed several music groups, and owned her own broadcast school and record label which led to earning Cashbox and Billboard No. 1 records. Leeper, a Second Ward High School graduate, was inducted into the National Black Radio Hall of Fame in 1989. Hattie “Chatty Hatty” Leeper, congratulations from Urbaninsite.com, deserving as a loved community vocal leader that’s appreciated. (Source Charlotte Post)
