The Charlotte Chapter Rolls Out the Red Carpet as the National Black Radio Hall of Fame Inducts Class of 2026
Icons of Black radio, including Stevie Wonder, Shirley Caesar, Tony Gray and Skip Dillard, honored in the Queen City.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. The trailblazers, history makers and innovators of Black radio took center stage in the Queen City as the National Black Radio Hall of Fame celebrated its Class of 2026 induction program.
Among this year’s 2026 honorees:
Stevie Wonder, African American Station Owner Award
Shirley Caesar, Gospel Radio Personality Award
Tony Gray, Lifetime Media Achievement Award
Skip Dillard, Talented Brothers of Radio Award
Chaka Khan, Radio Music Career Artist of the Year
Charlemagne Tha God, Radio Pioneer Award
They join a distinguished class of on-air personalities, station owners, programmers, promoters and pioneers whose voices shaped the sound and the culture of Black radio.
“It was amazing to be in the Queen City. It’s always an honor and a privilege to celebrate the trailblazers, the history makers and the innovators of Black radio,” said Dave “Hurricane Dave” Smith, National Board Member, Atlanta Chapter President, and Chairperson for Nominations and Inductions.
On behalf of Founder and President Bernie Hayes, Vice President of the National Office Uvee Hayes, and Second Vice President of the National Office Marsha Washington George, the National Black Radio Hall of Fame extends a heartfelt thank you to the city of Charlotte for hosting this year’s celebration.
The Class of 2027 is headed to Orlando, Florida. Dates, venue and nomination details will be announced soon.
