A public memorial will be held outside of Los Angeles City Hall, Friday, May 6, at 5 p.m. local time (8 p.m. EDT). And there are plans in Minneapolis also this week.
“The City of Los Angeles will hold a memorial tribute to Prince Rogers Nelson featuring very special guests to honor his legacy in music and philanthropy,” a statement on LA’s City HallFacebook page read. “This event is free and open to the public.”
Even though Prince was from Minnesota, L.A. wanted to hold the public service for Prince since the video for his 1991 hit single “Diamonds and Pearls” was shot there. “The City of Los Angeles is proud to have been the home away from home for a tremendous talent that touched our city,” the statement said. “We look forward to celebrating his contributions to music, Los Angeles, and the world.”
