We are very pleased to report that the FCC’s Office of Communications Business Opportunities (“OCBO”), “Roundtable Discussion on Diversity and Government Advertising,” held March 23, 2016, at FCC Headquarters, was a major success
Melody Spann Cooper, Steve Roberts, and Sherman Kizart, discussed with representatives of the Departments of Defense, Transportation, Veterans Affairs and the FCC, how current advertising practices result in virtually no advertising being placed on African American owned media. OCBO Director Thomas Reed and Jim Winston moderated the discussion.
The discussion proved to be very productive. The federal government agencies were unfamiliar with the problems African American broadcast station owners experience attempting to secure federal government advertising. At the conclusion of the discussion, each of the federal government representatives participating in the Roundtable stated that they are willing to work with NABOB to get our concerns conveyed to the correct persons within their agencies and to assist NABOB in getting meetings with those persons.
