It is amazing! People need to understand that radio as we know it is dead! It really is. There was a time in our history when there was just AM radio and it ruled. That was it. There wasn’t even TV. Then TV came along and everyone said TV wasn’t going to kill AM radio and it was just a fad and only the rich could afford it anyway.. blah…

Let me say it again… No, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Breathe in… now let it out. Ok, are you relaxed? My friends, don’t get left behind. Stop holding on to that dying corps called terrestrial radio.

Internet radio is here and it is the new radio. TRUST me.. You ever heard of MiFI? Yes!! Personal wifi connections for you to connect your iphone, droid phone, IPad, Pod, whatever to it in an instant and share it with five friends. This technology is already in cars.. People are streaming their favorite radio stations in their cars NOW!!!

If you work in radio and you know you are good and you have talent and all that. STOP begging these folks for jobs and waiting for them to do something for you. Erect your own station and use all that you learned with your years of experience in radio and make your own lane. It works for me and if you try it, it will work for you. Check me out if you can, wmarfm.com want a job? I am hiring? Really!

Take care and be well my friends.

I’m amazed at Urban Radio just killin’ itself. So the research shows people want all music and no personality and you think this is a plan. Does the research show that your audience is happy with the brand of radio you are bombarding them with? Is there any community connection at all? When you go to schools and ask young people what their favorite radio station is what do they say? Oh I forgot there are no local personalities to go to the schools…the answer is they do not have favorite personalities anymore….and they won’t. So the solution is the stations are going to be jubeboxes? Wow…In these very challenging times you need the very best management and talent not just company yes men and talents who are told to just get in and get out and don’t worry about connecting with your audience. A few months ago as I sat in the audience at the NABOB conference and heard the owners belly aching about the tough times they faced what I didn’t hear was a commitment to excellence and to giving their audiences the best product and community support they deserve. I realized for the last few decades the air personalities have put in the sweat equity for these owners in the communities and the owners sat on their laurels and raped the local businesses doing nothing to build bridges or assist these business and now in these tough times the stations are finally open to ideas. I guess the chickens are finally coming home to roost.

All is not lost, my Brother! Radio is transitioning from a totally terrestrial medium, to one that is going to be more heavily internet-focused. More people are listening to their favorite terrestrial radio station stream in the car, on their cell phone, on the office computer, or on the computer at home. Besides, ultimately, the internet sound quality in the car will be better than over-the-air broadcast. There’s opportunity here, folks! All you displaced, or dissatisfied, or simply adventurous programmers have a wonderful opportunity to attract audiences that are starving for better product. Who cares what traditional broadcast groups are doing? There’s gold in dem thar hills… the “hills” are the internet!

  5. I am a recent grad and I am unable to get a foot let alone a toe in the front door. What is the deal? Is it really this hard to get started in the radio field. I have applied, sent my portfolio and still at a dead end job. I have the skill set as well as the passion for radio but since I dont have expereince I am getting nowhere. But how can I get experience if no one is willing to let me in the door… hell I’M WILLING TO CLIMB IN THE WINDOW!!!!

Whats up with Steven A Smith saying Big Ben should be suspended four games for conduct detramental to the league? Suspended! for what, being accused! Thats like being pulled over just for driving the wrong kinda car, ridiculous! Type cast, and don’t even get me going comparing Ben to Pac-man or Tank theres NO charges to be totally fair…yet. You gotta let the investigation play out before you go off like that. Whats going on Steven? Really? Hey; I’ll come in behind this crap your spinning if ONE thing happens. They got Ben on video or admitting he went into a ladies restroom. Then I say, he’s out for four or more. Til’ then com’on man something up, and it isn’t with Ben. Steven A just being Steven A-H maybe? When are we going to stop putting these rich young men on pedestals they so easily fall off? Judgement? reserve it for the facts! not ratings or provocation of ratings.. the oldest trick. First get the past facts accuate, the accusser eight months ago alledged that particular offense occured a year before that. So you can’t blanket the man like he’s a walking drunk penis 24/7 who has to be put out like the trash. DO PROCESS the information without bias Mr. Steven A! Time will reveal the true lies and nature of both Ben and your comments.

    Hello Radio Friends!!!!
it’s been well over a year since i lost my 25 year on-air slot at WBLS. As so many of you know, there are no jobs out there …especially for radio vets! I’ve taken this jobless opportunity to re-invent my career and live another passion…cooking! I encourage others out there finding it hard to get work.. to do the same. I believe everything happens for a reason. Look at this down time as God’s way of opening the next door for you to walk through…all you have to do is create your plan, step out on faith and walk thru the next open door. I know it’s hard and might be scary…but you can do it! I took that leap of faith and invite you to check it out
http://www.cookingwithchampaine.com I’ve put together all my favorite things…cooking, music & inspiration and launched this site. Maybe it will inspire you to live your next dream!!!! God Bless All Of You and take that leap of Faith!

All of my radio people who are working and to those that are not……I am going to start telling everyone what the hell is wrong with Urban Radio.. Problem by Problem and I am going to start right now with the first two problems.

    1) I know people need jobs but this is especially for guys and some women.. STOP TAKING JOBS FOR LOW PAY JUST TO BE ON THE AIR TO KEEP YOUR PRIDE UP AND YOUR EGO.. Stop thinking people miss you on the radio, they dont you miss yourself on the radio.
    2) Havent you noticed that radio companies are now hiring White Air Talent to do black radio???? Have you heard this bulls**^ so there were already less black jobs to go around now there are even fewer.

Stay tuned I got mo on the way if you feel me please respond I will holla at you….

  12. Jeff Foxx gets Wendy Williams afternoon spot (3PM to 7PM) at 107.5 WBLS.

Lang said,” We’re gutting and installing new digital on-air & production studios, launching a new website, will institute streaming on the web, upgrading to HD and planning some exciting programming changes which will change the complexion of radio in Hampton Roads. I’m extremely excited about the full support I’m getting from University President Dr. William Harvey & Dean Whitaker-Heck as this vision unfolds.” His appointment became effective this past September 25th, 2009.

Way to go Nikki Nicole! She’s no longer with Perry Brodacsting’s FOXIE 103 JAMZ/WFXA in Augusta as of today. Radio One Raleigh welcomes her as the new production director. On the flip side, FOXIE 103 JAMZ is running middays without a jock. Hmmm, good luck Sly Tay, Chilly Chillz and Hustla! Perry needs jocks bad as hell now. Plus, Doug and DeeDee shows is over in a couple of days on Magic 100.9. Poor Perry Broadcasting Augusta.

  18. coolradiofan says:

If Egypt got the Midday position…that means Jasmine was fired. And the Wendy Williams time slot is still wide open. OK WBLS NYC what’s next…we are all watching

  19. Snaps says:

Congratulations to Egypt for getting the midday shift at WBLS New York, You go girl

  20. Preston says:

Sal: Can you do better? Why don’t you show the Vent what you can do? Not a diss but when people says something is wack I want to see what they can do that is not wack.

  21. Sal B says:

No offense but that WKYS Tiger promo was pretty wack.

  22. Radio Lover says:

Does anyone listen to Baton Rouge radio……Just wonderin anyones thoughts about The Urban and Urban AC

  23. K.A. says:

I noticed that a lot of urban radio stations are removing their weekday mix shows except for during the middays, afternoons, & weekends. Is this a new trend for urban radio?

  24. Albert says:

What happened the Beat in Philly? Are they still mixing? Whose still there?

  25. IluvJ says:

@H-town Z Man: I Know you are not talking about TT! You must be one of those lite weights wanna be’s or a washed up jock who don”t know how to show prep and you expect her to give you a break…real programmers, you must me smoking something to think she can”t program. Give it a rest U bum, you can”t beat her, join her

  26. H-TOWN Z MAN! says:

There is a albino snake in the programming offices of Radio One Houston…She claims to be down with tha brotha’s and to know Hip Hop…Not so…She’s just zeroxing. Ya can’t trust her… Real Programmers like Carl Conners set R1 Houston on the dominant path. With so manyy qualified programmers out, it’s tough to see the snake prospering from someone elses hard , hard work… We remember you Monty! Shame on R1 for putting an Albino Snake in tha building!

  27. chitown says:

Can somebody tell me where you go to find ratings in different time slots for radio stations?

  28. GAWGA BOI says:

Not being a hater, but im here in Charleston,SC for the holidays and Z-93/WWWZ sucks azz! I know this is the only Urban Hip-Hop/R&B but the mixshows and night jocks are just horrible. I know this is geechie city, but damn does everyone have to sound ignorant over the airwaves? Coming in to towwn I had my ears glued to Columbia radio stations. Big city sound and great personalities especially HOT 103.9/WHXT.

  29. GAWGA BOI says:

    Re: Lee

Well, atleast Steve brought back a hip-hop station since Clear Channel still dominates Albany, GA with sleepy 96.3 WJIZ. I see they have a new website http://www.power1055fm.com. Same story in Jacksonville with WJBT since they are the ony Urban in town which is also owned by Clear Channel. Same ol’ stuff with no competition winning by default. BTW, im not from 229, 404 is home.

  30. Lee says:

Hey Gawga Boy…im from Albany Mr. Smith and I worked together when we was at Blazin 102.1. Interesting to see that some one else from the 229 is blazing the board. I’m currently now in Jacksonville, FL not really feeling radio down here. Im waiting on hegwood to blow up to see if he would show interest in putting a REAL hip hip station here.
